About these terms

These terms govern your use of the Lesson Studio application, Lesson Space, the Lesson Studio website, and the files and export tools they provide. In these terms, “Lesson Studio” means those services and “I” or “me” means the independent operator and creator of Lesson Studio.

Lesson Studio does not require a Lesson Studio account or subscription. If you use it for a school, business or other organisation, you are also responsible for following that organisation’s policies and confirming that you are authorised to use the services and material you choose.

Permission to use Lesson Studio

I give you a limited, non-exclusive and non-transferable permission to use Lesson Studio as it is made available, free of charge, for lawful teaching, learning, planning and content creation. This includes use in classrooms, schools, tutorials, universities, businesses and at home.

You may keep, adapt, export and share the original material you create with Lesson Studio. You may provide that material to learners, colleagues or others on terms you choose, subject to any rights belonging to other people and the separate rules that may apply to AI-generated material.

Your responsibilities

You are responsible for how you use Lesson Studio and for the material you create, import, publish or share. You must have the rights and permissions needed for material you add to the application.

• You must not use Lesson Studio for unlawful, fraudulent, abusive or harmful activity.
• You must not attempt to disrupt, overload, bypass or compromise the application, its security controls or anyone else’s use of it.
• You must not present Lesson Studio’s software, service, name or branding as your own, or resell or republish the application as your product.
• You must not use Lesson Studio to infringe another person’s intellectual property, privacy or other legal rights.

Your work and where it is stored

As between you and Lesson Studio, you retain ownership of the original lessons, canvases, notes, diagrams, code and other material you create. I do not claim ownership of that material. You give Lesson Studio only the limited permission needed to process it on your device and to perform features you deliberately use, such as exporting a lesson or making an AI request.

Your saved library is not automatically uploaded to a Lesson Studio account. Lesson Studio stores working and recovery data in your browser. Library files, optional folder copies, backups and exports are written only when you choose the relevant save or export action. Some features necessarily send specific information to a server to carry out your request, including AI requests and web-page retrieval.

Keep independent copies of anything important. Browser storage is useful for recovery, but it is not a permanent backup. Clearing browser data, losing access to a device, or a browser or device failure may remove work that you have not saved elsewhere.

AI features and third-party providers

AI is optional. Lesson Studio is not an AI provider. It does not create, train, operate or control the AI models available through the application. It is an interface that lets you send requests to a third-party provider you choose.

• Your provider account is separate. You create and manage your own account and API key directly with the provider. Lesson Studio is not a party to that relationship and cannot manage your account, billing, credits, usage limits, provider-side history or access rights. The provider’s terms, privacy notice, data-use rules and charges apply to its service. Any charges are paid by you directly to the provider.
• Your API key is handled by the connection service. When you connect a provider, the key is sent over HTTPS to Lesson Studio’s same-origin key handler. It is sealed in an encrypted, Secure, HttpOnly and SameSite cookie in your browser for up to 30 days. Page scripts cannot read the key after it is connected, and the interface receives only connection status. Disconnecting the provider removes its key from that cookie.
• Lesson Studio adds operational instructions and context to AI requests. Your typed message is not always sent by itself. To make each workspace function correctly, Lesson Studio injects system instructions and may attach up to ten recent conversation messages, your workspace instructions, selected resource extracts, current lesson or canvas details, document text or selections, code, diagram source, web-page extracts, or an image of handwriting you explicitly ask it to transcribe. It may also send a corrective follow-up when a structured response is invalid. This added material is part of the request sent to your provider and can affect the provider’s response.
• Requests pass through a relay. Lesson Studio’s same-origin AI proxy receives the request, validates and reformats it, uses the connected key, forwards it to the provider, and streams the response back. The current application code does not write prompt or response bodies to a server-side database or server-side chat history, and it does not log those bodies. Lesson Studio gives me no account inbox or conversation dashboard through which I can view your messages. It would nevertheless be inaccurate to say that the content is never processed by Lesson Studio, because it passes through the proxy in transit. Hosting and network infrastructure also handle that traffic, and the chosen provider may retain or use it under its own policies.
• Conversation copies are kept locally. Lesson Studio stores AI messages in your browser as part of your local Library so that conversations can be reopened and recovered. Those records can also be included in a Library file or backup, or exported as text when you choose those actions. AI chat history is not automatically added to a learner lesson or published course, although generated material you deliberately place in a lesson may be included.
• AI output is unverified third-party content. Lesson Studio does not author, approve or verify it. AI output may be inaccurate, incomplete, biased, unsafe, unsuitable, out of date or similar to material owned by someone else. You are responsible for reviewing it, checking relevant sources, confirming that you have the right to use it, and deciding whether it is appropriate for your learners and purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Lesson Studio accepts no responsibility for AI-generated content or for decisions, teaching, publication, loss or harm arising from your use of or reliance on it.
• Take particular care with personal or confidential information. Do not send student information, special-category personal data, safeguarding information, confidential material or another person’s work unless you have lawful authority to do so and have confirmed that your organisation and chosen provider permit it. You are responsible for that decision.

You can use Lesson Studio without connecting an AI provider and can turn AI features off in Settings.

Rights in AI-generated material

I claim no ownership of AI output returned through Lesson Studio. However, I do not promise that AI output is capable of being owned, is original, or may be used without restriction. Any rights granted by an AI provider are governed by its terms, and applicable law may treat AI-generated material differently from material created by a person.

Lesson Studio intellectual property

Lesson Studio’s original software and source code, design, branding and name remain mine. Bundled third-party software and other components remain the property of their respective owners and may be subject to separate licences. Using Lesson Studio does not transfer those rights to you.

Third-party services and material

Lesson Studio may link to, retrieve information from, or display material supplied by third parties. Those services and materials are outside my control and may change, become unavailable, or be subject to their own terms. A link or integration does not mean that I endorse or accept responsibility for the third party or its content.

Availability and warranties

Lesson Studio is developed independently and made available free of charge. It may be updated, changed, suspended or discontinued, and I do not promise that every feature will remain available or work without interruption or error.

Except for rights and responsibilities that cannot lawfully be excluded, Lesson Studio is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties or guarantees that it will meet a particular need, preserve data indefinitely, or be compatible with every device, browser, file or third-party service.

Responsibility and liability

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits responsibility for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, death or personal injury caused by negligence, your statutory consumer rights, or any other responsibility that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

Subject to those protections, and where I am not at fault, I am not responsible for indirect or consequential loss, loss of data, work, time, income or opportunity, third-party services, or loss arising from content you or an AI provider creates.

You remain responsible for professional judgement, safeguarding, accessibility, accuracy and legal compliance in the material you use or share. Lesson Studio is a creation tool and is not a substitute for checking content before it reaches learners.

Optional support

Optional support is a gift, not a purchase. It does not buy features, service levels, priority, ownership, warranties or any other entitlement. Lesson Studio remains available on the same basis whether or not you contribute.

Changes to these terms

I may update these terms to reflect changes to Lesson Studio, its integrations or legal requirements. The date at the top identifies the current version. If you continue to use Lesson Studio after an update takes effect, the updated terms apply to that continued use.

Stopping use and contacting me

If you do not agree to these terms, do not use Lesson Studio. There is no Lesson Studio account or subscription to cancel. You may disconnect any AI providers, save or delete your local work as you choose, and stop using the application.

Original material you have already exported remains yours. Exported files do not depend on an active Lesson Studio account.
